On the 15th June 2021 I accompanied Leo Houlding and Anna Taylor on a walk to the East Buttress of Scafell to photograph them rock climbing. The crags of Scafell have always been a crucible of rock climbing development and this rich history combines with stunning rock architecture and breathtaking views to cement its place as one of the UK’s finest high mountain climbing locations.

As two of the best climbers in the UK, it was a privilege to document Leo and Anna making short work of some very serious climbs at this imposing crag. The photographs will be used for my upcoming book Extreme Lakeland (for which Leo has kindly agreed to write the foreword).

East Buttress, Scafell

Creating photographs in remote places is a fundamental part of my life. Having suffered for a considerable period of time with the lingering effects of a bout of Covid, these images marked my return to physically demanding shoots in the mountains, something which at one point I had begun to doubt was possible.
